Behind the images

A study of images conceived as a space to be explored in the form of a mental and physical journey, behind the images adopts the principle of layering: one image evokes another, which in turn evokes another and so on.

Starting out on an intimate level, the journey introduces the attribution of meanings, associations, projections and fantasies especially connected with death, sex and the sacred – essential spheres for the production of representations.

Les coulisses de la mémoire

On approaching the public domain, the itinerary reveals figures and symbols associated with knowledge, power and belief, projecting a social vision of objects and bodies coveted, sold, megalized, explored, rendered sacred and crowned.

The voyage finally unearths conflicts of interpretation linked with control over imagery through standardization, iconoclasm, censorship and decree.

The total whiteness with which the journey concludes indicates the impossibility to think of the images beyond their cultural implantation which allows for their identification and analysis.

For behind the images there is nothing.
