Conférence

From igloos to microwaves in less than 60 years

Une conférence en anglais de Peter Irniq (homme politique, artiste, enseignant et défenseur des droits culturels Inuit))

Peter Irniq is an Inuit political figure who notably involved in the struggle for the regional autonomy of Nuvanut (former Northwest Territories) in Canada.
He also launched many official projects in order to perserve Inuktiut langage and Inuit cultural traditions.

His conference will adress the rapid and profound changes that have affected Inuit way of life since World War II. Beyond the mere irruption of Western technologies and believes, some of those changes were forced by Government policies. Moreover, in the recent years, global warming also had a growing influence. Far from judgmental, Peter Irniq will address these issues in a « reconciliation » perspective, with prospective views on the future of Inuit people.
